blah blah blah

My first video diary type thingy from Jasie VanGesen on Vimeo.

Awesomest Chocolate Chip Cookies EVER!
  • 2 sticks of softened butter
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup agave nectar (with just a little black-strap molasses at the top of the cup)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose white flour
  • 1/2 cup each of whole wheat, millet, and dark rye flours
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp hot water
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chips
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup flax seed meal

Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F). Mix butter, sugars, vanilla, and eggs together. Add flax seed meal. Dissolve salt & baking soda in hot water, add to batter and mix well. In separate bowl mix the various flours together. Sift them into the batter, a cup or so at a time, mixing thoroughly. Add chips and more flax seed meal if desired. Spoon onto cookie sheet, sprinkle with whole flax seeds (I was all out) and bake for about 10 to 12 minutes.

About my hair, please don't view this video as some testimonial for no-poo. I made the mistake of putting some styling putty stuff in there before doing the video, figuring it'd make me look less frumpy and dull. It just made me look sticky and gunky and unwashed. You live, you learn. Ah, Alanis, you was SMRT.

Also, for newer readers: this is the xylophone man I refer to.

TEH WEIRD! I made some very similar cookies yesterday; there is still more batter in fridge for me to cook up.

Those cookies look yum. I wish i could bake but i always burn everything. And also-house buying is totally crazy. My hubs and I JUST bought our first house in Kent, WA. It was stressful but also totally awesome because I have always always lived in apartments my whole life. I think the whole process was made infinitely better because we attended a free first time home buyers seminar a few months before we started looking. It helped to prepare us for what we were gunna do. We also used Redfin instead of a traditional relator which was also awesome. Its all interwebs based which is great for us modern folk. Plus, they give you half the commission back at the end which was a help with closing costs. Anyway....that was a long rambling comment. Good luck!

That's awesome about the loan! Such a big step out of the way, even if there is much more to be done :) I loved the video! It made me feel like we were hanging out.

Love the vlog and the cookies look delicious. I see a batch of them in my near future.

So fun getting to know you through your blog!

Kelly - More proof we should like... hang out.

Marieke - You're in Kent! I had no idea you lived anywhere near me! We're two hours west of Seattle up in Port Townsend. :) We also attended a free seminar at the local library that was put on by some local mortgage people, the USDA, and other various groups. It was really informative and got us thinking in the right direction.

Kristen - heh... I think we should all post videos. A group vlog hangout.

Birdie - heh, thanks. I'm loving yours too. :)

Between Grumpy McGrmupy Pants and your Port Townsend impression, I couldn't help laughing! Hope your bad mood is better and awesome about the loan.

Hey doesn't the molasses overtake in flavor? I would think it would be super strong.

Tara - The molasses is CRAZY strong. I generally use 1/2 cup agave filled most of the way, then just a tablespoon or two worth of molasses on top of that.

I never realized I do so many voices while talking, I'm like Peter Gabriel or something.

Those cookies look awesome! I wonder where I can get agave nectar? I've never seen any in the supermarket, but then I've never looked for it either.

I buy mine in a 2-pack at costco, so I'm guessing it's becoming more widely available. I used to have to get it at our local food co-op. The brand I buy is this stuff: http://geekedgourmet.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/agave_nectar.jpg
